Hope for Baringo Gynecological Cancer Awareness Drive 2025 – 2026

We’re mobilizing Funds for this Project

This program will initially run for one year, starting June, as we plan for the coming years. It will take place in Marigat Sub-county, Baringo County.

  The program focuses on:

1. Awareness & Early Detection (0–6 Months)

✅ Public awareness campaigns using flyers, public address systems, and radio talk shows
✅ Training 100 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and religious leaders as ambassadors to encourage cancer screening in their communities.

2. Scaling up cancer screening programs (6-12 months)

✅ Hosting seven mobile medical camps to provide free cancer screening (breast, cervical, and prostate) to bring services closer to underserved rural populations.
✅ Deploying a fully equipped mobile clinic to reach underserved rural communities
✅ Establishing a data collection system to track screening uptake and referrals
✅ Conducting awareness campaigns through public address systems to educate people on prevention, early signs, and treatment options.
✅ Ensure access to early treatment to reduce mortalities and other consequences associated with late treatment.

3. Long-Term Goal: Establishing a Cancer Centre (12-36 months)

✅ As a sustainable solution, we aim to eventually establish a cancer centre equipped with diagnostic and treatment machines since the county does not have one.
✅ This would increase accessibility to essential cancer care services and reduce the high number of late-stage diagnoses.
✅ Collaborating with universities and research institutions to collect cancer incidence data
✅ Scaling the model to other counties in Kenya

Expected Impact

✅ This project will focus on training 100 community health promoters and religious leaders, who will, in turn, educate women (target 4,000 women) on how to perform self-breast examinations, thereby promoting breast cancer screening in the most affordable way. The trained health promoters and opinion leaders will serve as long-term advocates for breast cancer screening, leaving a lasting impact for years to come.
✅ Empowering women through community health promoters and religious leaders will facilitate early detection of breast cancer, reducing both morbidity and mortality associated with the disease. If a woman detects any breast abnormality or lump through self-examination, she will seek further medical evaluation, preventing late-stage diagnosis.
✅ Through this initiative, the people of Baringo County, most of whom are uneducated, will gain awareness of breast cancer, including its causes, signs, symptoms, and prevention methods. This will not only improve their knowledge but also help dispel cultural myths, such as the belief that cancer is a curse. As a result, it is expected that the general attitude and perception of cancer in the
community will improve.
✅ Finally, the trained community health promoters and religious leaders will provide psychosocial support at the community level to those affected by breast cancer, including newly diagnosed patients, thereby reducing the stigma associated with the disease.
